Abstract :
An experiment has been carried out on a 50 km trans-horizon microwave link to investigate the influence of non-uniform illumination on obstacle diffraction loss and the shielding effectiveness of an obstacle. The results obtained indicate that the value of diffraction loss differs spatially and temporally from the value experienced over line-of-sight paths. The shielding effectiveness of the obstacle, on the other hand, does not appear to be significantly altered
