Abstract :
We show that grating coupled radiation from a waveguide is a very sensitive oscillatory function of waveguide thickness when substrate and guide indices differ greatly. Because of this phenomenon, computed results are strongly dependent on the choice of waveguide geometry used to calculate the unperturbed modes.
