Abstract :
Partial discharge inception voltages (Vi) were measured in non-uniform electric fields with insulating barrier plates. The inception voltage was found to decrease with increasing thickness of barrier plate for a given electrode separation. A semi-empirical formula for Vi has been proposed. The results obtained with this formula are found to be in good agreement with experimentally determined values.
