Abstract :
Thermal effects at and below the surface of an insulating material have been calculated when the material is subjected to a high-current, mobile electric discharge. The relationships between temperature conditions, energy density, velocity of discharge movement, and thermo-physical characteristics of the insulation are analyzed. Formulae for temperature distribution under various conditions are derived.
