Abstract
Giant magnetoresistance (GMR) is observed in a series of sputtered Co-Au granular alloy films. X-ray studies indicate that these films are nanocrystalline and exhibit (111) growth texture. The GMR effect is relatively small at room temperatures, but is not close to saturation in a field of 1.25 T. Modeling the field dependence leads to saturation field estimates on the order of 10 T and greater
