  • Abstract
Samples of nominal composition SmxFe100-x (10<x<50) are prepared by mechanical alloying starting from pure elements. The phase distribution, thermal stability and hysteretic properties of the samples are studied by using X-ray diffractometry, differential scanning calorimetry and magnetometric techniques, respectively. The obtained results make evident that the as-milled material is formed essentially by a mixture of an amorphous Sm-Fe phase and α-Fe, the relative amount of amorphous phase being larger for larger Sm contents. Upon crystallization of the amorphous phase, coercivities on the order of 0.7 T are developed
