Abstract :
Remedies for various deleterious effects on the fields of permanent magnet solenoids arising from practically necessary structural compromises are discussed, and means of meeting some common mutually contradictory technical requirements are suggested. Among them are reduction of flux leakage by an order of magnitude, remedies for problems caused by access holes, provision of field-free regions within the magnetic structures for field sensitive components and elimination of unwanted partial shielding due to iron pole pieces
