Abstract :
For some time now, you have been hearing of SSIT´s financial difficulties. Here are some of the things we are doing as a Society to address them. In November 2008, I appointed five ad hoc committees to look for ways of improving our finances and also at alternate organizational structures for SSIT. These committees worked diligently and most of the participants attended a planning meeting in January. It became clear that SSIT will soon be unable to function as an independent society. Even with successful implementation of all our financial initiatives we would not be financially viable. We are surviving on our reserves and these were further depleted in the stock market decline of 2008.
