Abstract :
A coherent pulsation effect is reported in which the output of a CW laser oscillator is localized in periodic short bursts of energy. The experimentally observed pulse trains resulting from this instability are in agreement with solutions of the governing quantum mechanical equations and cannot be predicted from the usual rate equation models.
