Abstract :
The author describes an approach used in Russia to develop diagnostic techniques to assess the condition of oil-filled power equipment. He considers that the most useful parameters to estimate remaining life are the partial pressures of dissolved gases and water in the oil and the water content in the solid insulation. Gas chromatography is used to determine these parameters from oil samples taken from equipment in service.
