Abstract :
A readout method using a defocused circular polarized beam is discussed. When a reversed domain is much smaller than the focused beam waist, the deterioration of the readout signal was reduced by the domain being placed away from the waist. Magnetooptic (MO) signal was obtained by detecting the difference of intensity profiles of diffraction patterns on reversal of magnetization distribution in MO medium within the illuminated region. The figure of merit of this readout method was estimated to be larger than that of the conventional system for a reversed domain which is less than 0.56 times the beam waist
