Abstract
The authors present a modification to the five-sample (1,7) ML algorithm which requires six-sample look-ahead and improves the performance in the presence of nonlinearities and other nonGaussian noise components. Test data comparing the (1,7) ML channel to the conventional peak-detection channel are provided
