  • Abstract
    An analytic formula to predict the bit transition shift due to the magnetostatic field generated by neighboring written tracks is derived. In order to test this theory, we have employed a micromagnetic simulation including recording head, soft underlayer and Voronoi cell-based recording layer. This neighbor-induced transition shift scales worse than linearly with the density of the recording medium, reaching ∼70% at 1 terabit/in2 in worst case scenarios such as dc-erased media.
