Abstract :
The author discusses how risks were assessed and reduced to acceptable levels in the design of the Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway. Safety, reliability and security concepts are discussed. The author goes on to describe the design of the trains, stations, power supplies and fire prevention. Training and maintenance are also briefly described
