Abstract
This paper reviews the display requirements of consumer HDTV and four display technologies that are expected to have significant roles in the initial phases of the evolving HDTV service. These four are: direct-view CRT´s and projectors based on CRT´s, LCD´s, and DMD´s. A systems overview is provided for each technology and the discussion is focused on the primary advantages and disadvantages of each, based on their fundamental physical characteristics and key operating principles
