    Polymer-housed surge arresters, which have been commercially available in many countries since the mid-1980s, provide significant advantages such as safety in the event of an overload failure, antiseismic performance based on compact and lightweight housing, and antipollution performance originating in the hydrophobic properties of the housing material.
