Abstract
In 2001, when wireless communications pioneer and Vodafone CEO Samuel Ginn gave US$25 million to Auburn University to establish the first wireless engineering degree program in the United States, the university asked Prathima Agrawal to come to Alabama to set up and run the new program. Thus, the new Wireless Engineering Research and Education Center (WEREC) emerged.
