Abstract
The average power analysis technique is modified to include gain saturation induced by amplified spontaneous noise. It is then shown that this improved analysis predicts the essential performance effects under all operating conditions while maintaining a reasonable computation time. In addition to this, it is also shown to predict performance trends reported by other studies.<>
