Abstract
We assess the seasonal (summer versus winter) variations of the correlation of rain attenuation as a function of distance for site separations up to 50 km; the anisotropy of the process is also studied. The work is based on a database of radar measurements collected in Spino d´Adda, Italy, in the period 1994-1995. The results show that in case of summer events (prevalence of convective storms) the correlation coefficient decreases more rapidly with the distance with respect to the case of winter events (prevalence of stratiform precipitations) and also that a certain degree of anisotropy exists, even if only small differences can be appreciated at least for short distances (up to 30 km)
