Abstract :
A new composite rare-earth-doped glass waveguide configuration for glass waveguide laser and amplifier applications is proposed. The configuration combines the excellent optical properties of ion-exchanged glass waveguides and the optimised characteristics of the commercially available laser glasses. The proposed approach is demonstrated using dual-core channel waveguides in Corning 0211 glass and a commercial erbium doped phosphate glass.
