Abstract
The extremely fast switching behaviour observed in axially-biased ferrite shock lines is explained in terms of transient radial demagnetisation fields. These are shown to be induced in the ferrite during the gyromagnetic precession process described by the Landau-Gilbert magnetisation equation and it is shown that, because of the initial ferrite bias alignment, the induced transient field components have a major effect in accelerating the ferrite switching process.
