Abstract :
The formula developed by Scharfetter and Gummel for the expression of current density widely used in numerical modeling of semiconductor devices is extended to the formulation of the flux of energy flow occurring in the energy balance equation. Recent interest in hot-carrier transport necessitates the solution of the energy balance equation in addition to the Poisson and the current continuity equations.
