Abstract
In this paper we propose an alternative approach for testing the stability of two-dimensional causal recursive digital filters which are devoid of nonessential singularities of the second kind. We make a detailed comparison of the computational efficiency of this method with two other algebraic methods available in the literature. We also derive, using the approach presented in this paper, a simple set of necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of a class of 2-D recursive filters.
