Comments on the generalized ambiguity function

A straight forward derivation of the form of the generalized (wide-band) ambiguity function is presented. It is obtained by treating the scattered acoustic pressure field from a point target (in relative motion with respect to a bistatic transmit/receive array geometry) as the output of a linear, time-varying, random filter. The results are compared to previous expressions which have appeared in the literature for the generalized ambiguity function, and the differences are discussed.
