Abstract :
The dynamic performance of permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors using damping and synchronizing torques is analyzed. A numerical algorithm is applied to obtain these torque components using a time-domain analysis of nonlinear systems. The effects of all electrical parameters are examined and the optimum values which give maximum internal damping are defined. It is demonstrated that the choice of the optimum values of these parameters results in well-damped oscillations with improved dynamical performance following load changes
