Abstract :
The ruby laser, the 
-switched laser, stimulated Raman scattering, noble gas ion lasers, and laser rangefinding were the most noteworthy early laser contributions by scientists and engineers of the Hughes Aircraft Company. This paper provides a history of these accomplishments. Several other early Hughes achievements are mentioned.
