Abstract :
The theoretical refractive index n of the direct gap IV-VI compounds PbTe, PbSe, and PbS below the fundamental absorption edge is presented. A theoretical expression for n is obtained from a quantum mechanical calculation of the dielectric constant using the band structure of Kane theory. Comparison to experimental data is discussed.
