Abstract :
The optical pump efficiency of a solid-state laser has been calculated, in an unified manner, for the active materials ruby, Nd:YAG, Nd:glass, alexandrite, and Nd:Cr:GSGG under typical operating conditions. This unified presentation allows for a critical comparison and points toward possible future improvements.
