Abstract :
Flashlamp-pumped vibronic lasing has been demonstrated at room temperature with the garnet Cr3+: GSAG. Continuous wavelength tuning was observed from 765 to 801 nm in preliminary experiments. An energy output of 110 mJ/pulse was obtained at 784 nm with a slope efficiency of 0.12 percent. Wavelength dependent gain and loss data are presented and are discussed with reference to Cr3+: GSGG measurements.
