  • Abstract
Advanced designs and controls for ships traveling at up to 70 km/h offer attractive transport options and passenger comfort even in rough seas. In particular the author discusses the design of the HSS 1500 catamaran which uses jet engines for propulsion, the FastShip Atlantic (also using gas turbines), and large cargo ships for Asia´s Pacific coast based on hydrofoils and air-cushioned catamarans. The author also discusses cruise control and integrated control of many of a ships systems
