Abstract :
In this paper we show that, at frequencies where diffusion effects are negligible, the shield of a cable can be characterized by two quantities: transfer inductance (LT) and geometric transfer ratio (GTR). These two quantities depend only on the construction of the shield, and not on experimental conditions. We also show a method for estimating LT and GTR, assisted by a computer routine. The computer routine and the measurements required to implement it are described. Plots showing the correlation between measured and calculated shield performance are presented.
