Abstract :
A number of proposed applications of superconductivity for the electric utility sector are described. The current status of their development as of April 1990 is summarized, and the potential impact of the successful development of high-temperature superconductors (HTSCs) is discussed. Performance goals for development of HTSCs are presented and compared with their current status. Applications discussed include large-scale generators, motors, transmission lines, magnetic storage, transformers, power electronics, and fault-current limiters
