Abstract
This paper explains principles together with analytical and experimental studies of a brushless and exciterless polyphase synchronous motor which was devised by one of the authors. The steady state analyses on performances and the design of the brushless and exciterless synchronous motor system compared with those of the synchronous motor system of the same ratings containing an AC exciter, are discussed, and test results of a testing equipment including a motor with a transformer and other apparatus are presented. It has been found from the above studies that the brushless and exciterless three-phase synchronous motor of the newtype can be constructed without extending the size of the conventional synchronous motor of the same ratings.
