Abstract :
The image of the blue-green Earth, surrounded by a sea of space, is a poignant legacy of the space age. It shows the Earth as finite, insignificant and fragile, and highlights the precarious position of its inhabitants and their environment. At a time when industrialised nations are taking an ever-increasing interest in the state of the planet, the realisation is dawning that the best vantage of the Earth is gained from space. Here, the author details the observation of the Earth from space for meteorological and climatological applications
