Abstract :
Timing recovery schemes using sampling points one half-bit away from the zero crossings of the eye pattern are severely degraded when delay spread is large or when cochannel interference is present. This work presents a metric for QAM modulated signals (insensitive to carrier phase errors) for estimating an optimum sampling instant when, under such severe conditions, midsymbol sampling is not satisfactory
