Abstract
The calculation of power penalty owing to interferometric noise arising from a single incoherent interferer is performed using its probability distribution function. It is shown that good agreement between theory and experimental results exists. It is then confirmed that for 16 or more interferers a Gaussian approximation to interferometric noise is valid
