  • Abstract
Drives engineering is going through dramatic changes with the onset of ASICs and surface-mount technology. There are challenging career opportunities for a flexible engineer. The author discusses exactly what is meant by drives engineering and the selling of drives. The different aspects of drives engineering are discussed by looking at various applications involving different areas of technology such as semiconductor technology and control. Overall, drives engineering involves at least eight specialist engineering aspects, not including project management, and each one is absolutely essential to the overall success of the drive product. Market growth for such products continues at a stunning 25% annual increase with a typical product life of 2-3 years
