  • Abstract
The author briefly discusses the problems of introducing computer controlled equipment without adequate training and support. One way of improving the situation is to provide a more interactive user/machine interface, the interface being the physical device as well as the program for controlling interaction. For an interface to be viable it must be cost-effective and inherently flexible. The author discusses one possible solution based on a multi-function touch sensitive 5-inch monitor screen, which combines operator interaction and display information at one focal point, by Lucas. The host central processing unit (CPU) is responsible for the execution of the machine-control-sequence code. The interface to the board controlling the CRT monitor is managed by an Intel universal peripheral interface 80C452 I/O processor (452)
