Abstract
Harmonics are generated in free-electron lasers as a result of the nonuniform axial motion of the electrons. These motions can be manipulated through the addition of harmonic wiggler fields. A mathematical formalism is developed that describes the effects of harmonic wiggler fields on the fundamental and harmonic coupling coefficients. An examination of how these fields can be used to alter the harmonic power output of a free-electron laser is conducted.
