Abstract :
Fiber cables are designed to meet a variety of operational specifications called for by different applications. The choices of materials, structures, and the method of manufacture are governed by design rules developed through an understanding of relevant physical and optical characteristics of fibers. The principal force-related parameters to be controlled are axial strain and lateral stress. The optical parameters which influence cable designs are numerical aperture (NA), bandwidth, core/cladding ratios, and fiber types. Cable types are generalized and analyzed.
