Abstract :
Simulator tests of a new type of series capacitor, controlled by thyristor switches, are described. The structure of the control system and the components of the real-time simulator used for the tests are presented. Test results show performance for switching transients, AC faults, power-swing damping events, and subsynchronous resonance conditions. The thyristor controlled series capacitor is part of an EPRI sponsored project connected with flexible AC transmission systems
