Abstract :
The first time he heard the name Frank Malina, James L. Johnson was taking an aerospace history class at the University of North Dakota. The professor mentioned how Malina and his colleagues had pioneered U.S. rocketry. "I knew about Wernher von Braun and the German engineers," Johnson recalls. "But this guy [Malina] sounded really interesting, and I wondered why I hadn\´t heard about him before."
