Abstract
A review of the progress made in sampled-data systems during the l a s t t h i r t y y e a r s i s p r e s e n t e d i n t h i s p a p e r . In p a r t i c u l a r the impact of the d i s c r e t e t h e o r y on the continuous counterpart is mentioned. Additionally, the limiting process of d i s c r e t e system theory when t h e d i s c r e t e i n t e r v a l (o r t h e sampling period) goes to zero, i s discussed. Recent emergence of digital signal processing and d i g i t a l f i l t e r s a s an aftermath of sampled-data systems i s brought i n t o focus as well as the technological developments which a i d e d i n t h i s new development. f i e l d a s well as indicabions of possible future developments. The paper concludes with a c r i t i c a l view o f t h e p a s t a c h i e v e m e n t s i n t h i s
