Abstract :
By all accounts, 1995 saw not only growth in electronic design automation (EDA) but also its continued consolidation. Accel acquired the P-CAD business from an IBM subsidiary, Altium; OrCAD purchased Massteck; Mentor Graphics acquired Microtec Research; and Integrated Silicon Systems merged with Arcsys. In 1996, “CAE (computer-aided engineering) software will Continue its merger trend-applications with applications and company with company”, predicted H. Mark Ravenstahl, product manager of Ansoft Corp., Pittsburgh. The key EDA areas to watch in the new year will be the ongoing migration from Unix workstations to powerful PCs with the latest Windows operating systems, more interoperability among applications, and the continuing battle among languages to dominate high-level system design. And, be alert to formal verification´s rise in the industrial world after graduation from academia
