Abstract
A design of a DC series motor drive that minimizes both armature and field winding copper losses is presented. A nonlinear feedback is first applied to linearize the system. A closed-form expression of optimal control that minimizes the total copper losses is derived using Pontryagin´s Maximum principle. A computer simulation of a conventional drive and the energy-efficient drive of the same size are presented. The energy consumption comparison is made to show the effectiveness of the control law. Finally, implementation techniques of the energy-efficient drive are discussed
