  • Abstract
    In this letter, considering the photodetector-induced nonlinearity and non-Gaussian noise in optical fiber communication systems, a new iterative equalization algorithm based on the minimum mean square error criterion, called iterative minimum mean square error equalization, is derived to effectively mitigate the intersymbol interference caused by polarization-mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion. Compared with maximum-likelihood sequence estimation equalization, the proposed algorithm presents a better capability of improving the performance of the receiver.
