  • Abstract
Summary for only given, as follows. Professor King-sun Fu, the first Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, and the person whose initiative led to their founding, died from a sudden heart attack on April 29, 1985 in Washington, DC, USA. His death is a great loss to the PAMI community and, for those of us who knew him, a great personal loss as well. His scientific accomplishments and contributions, his numerous papers and books are well known to our readers. His many honors include: member of the National Academy of Engineering, member of Academia Sinica, IEEE Fellow, Guggenheim Fellow, the 1982 AFIPS Harry Goode Memorial Award, the 1982 IEEE Education Medal, and many others. He served as the Vice President for publications of the IEEE Computer Society, as the first President of the International Association for Pattem Recognition (IAPR), as well as Chairman of many conferences and workshops. This brief note is written as the issue is going to press. We are planning to have the May 1986 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence as a special memorial issue.
