Abstract :
2.8 Gbit/s optical soliton transmission is successfully demonstrated using a gain-switched 1.55 mu m distributed feedback laser diode and a Ti:LiNbO3 intensity modulator. An Er3+-doped fibre amplifier and a Raman amplifier, both pumped by 1.47 mu m laser diodes, are employed to achieve intense optical pulses and fibre-loss compensation, respectively.
