Abstract :
The authors have demonstrated, for the first time, 10 Gbit/s transmission over 360 km of embedded standard fibre cables. During the five month long field experiment, the 1.55 μm, 10 Gbit/s IM/DD system showed long term `error free´ transmission (less than 10-16 BER) with an optical repeater spacing of 120 km (33 dB repeater span loss)
