Abstract :
AT&T has been mass producing optical fiber since 1980 using the MCVD process. This process has proved to be very adaptable to changes in fiber design, and has shown continued improvement in productivity and product quality. Further enhancements are being actively pursued by AT&T and AT&T Bell Laboratories to make optical fiber an even more cost-effective alternative for future telecommunications needs.
